Capital Technical Rescue Visits Sterling Rope: A Learning Adventure

February 14, 2025

During our visit, we learned about road construction fibers and observed the fascinating process of rope manufacturing—from yarn to finished products. Our team engaged in discussions about the various firefighter escape systems that Sterling offers, showcasing alternative uses and techniques for effective implementation in rescue scenarios.

One of the stand out moments was our demonstration of vertical low edge transitions. We shared our unique Pike and Pivot setup, which is crucial for navigating challenging environments during rescues. This collaboration allowed us to exchange valuable insights and best practices with the experts at Sterling.

In addition to these discussions, we spent time in the lab testing ropes, knots, and hardware to their limits. Our hands-on experience included conducting load tests on span anchors and performing drop tests with the Petzl ASAP and dual main systems.

Our visit also featured a fun and engaging ropes course created by Sterling, where we practiced ascending ropes, performing work positioning tasks, and executing rope-to-rope transfers. At each station, we presented on various random topics, including rope construction, escape systems, and hardware inspection, fostering insightful discussions among our team and our hosts.

We captured many memorable moments during this trip, and we’re excited to share some highlighted photos with you! Stay tuned to our socials for more photos and videos from our experience at Sterling Rope.
